Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) is the nation's largest massage membership association, with more than 71,000 massage therapist members. ABMP offers the highest value in liability insurance coverage for the massage practices of massage therapists and bodyworkers.

Practicing members stay current in the field with the award-winning Massage & Bodywork magazine in both print and digital formats and also have access to a broad palette of benefits offered through ABMP.com.

Benefits include massage therapy and business webinars, and continuing education through ABMP's Online Education Center. Practicing members are required to follow the ABMP Code of Professional ethics. ABMP is employee-owned and headquartered in Golden, Colorado.

American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA)

The American Massage Therapy Association® (AMTA®) is a non-profit professional association of some 57,000 massage therapists and massage therapy schools/programs.  The association is directed by volunteer leadership chosen through national election and fosters ongoing, direct-member-involvement through chapters in all U.S. states and Washington, D.C.

Its mission is to serve its members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy.  In carrying out its mission, AMTA works to establish massage therapy as integral to the maintenance of good health and complementary to other therapeutic processes; to advance the profession through ethics and standards, continuing education, professional publications, legislative efforts and public education; and foster the professional development of its members.

The association provides information about massage therapy to the public and works to improve the professional climate for massage therapists. The association also helps consumers and healthcare professionals locate qualified massage therapists in the U.S. and Canada, through AMTA's Find a Massage Therapist® free national locator service.

The association advocates fair and consistent licensure of massage therapy in all U.S. states to protect the professionalism of massage therapists and the safety of the public.  AMTA believes such licensing also is the best means to work toward portability of practice for massage therapists in the future.

Each October, AMTA sponsors National Massage Therapy Awareness Week® (NMTAW) to promote the benefits of massage therapy and the professionalism of AMTA members.  Practitioner members, student members, school members and AMTA chapters organize a variety of activities to promote massage during that week.  Media coverage of NMTAW in 2009 reached audiences of more than 100 million.

AMTA professional level members have demonstrated a level of skill and knowledge through education and/or testing and must meet continuing education requirements to retain membership.
